MISSION
Battle Scars Foundation: A Legacy of Valor and Compassion
My name is Mike Hernandez. Born and raised as a cowboy, I learned the ropes working on ranches with my uncle and late father, who instilled in me the skills to be self-reliant. My rodeo days, spanning nearly 17 years of thrilling bull rides, and my lifelong passion for golf, which began in the 8th grade and carried me through college on a golf scholarship, have been defining aspects of my life. Yet, the pinnacle of my pride lies in my service as a United States Marine from 1994 to 1998. The Marine Corps shaped me into the man I am today, and for that, I am forever grateful.
"Battle Scars," a song that resonates deeply with me, honors the men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. This song embodies the stark reality of the cost of liberty and serves as a poignant reminder never to take our freedoms for granted. In response to this profound message, I founded the Battle Scars Foundation, dedicated to supporting veterans and their families in need. These brave individuals and their loved ones have endured unimaginable hardships to protect us.
The vision I have for this foundation is ambitious and requires unwavering support from true veteran advocates. Despite suffering multiple heart attacks that nearly claimed my life, I am committed to supporting five charitable causes: Veterans, Heart Disease, Diabetes, Cancer, and Alzheimer’s. These causes are personal, affecting either me or my parents, and my goal is to contribute to ongoing research in hopes of finding cures.
I dream of establishing a groundbreaking veteran-based charity right here in my backyard—an unparalleled facility honoring our heroic brothers and sisters. This state-of-the-art venue would feature a magnificent concert stage for mind-blowing performances, small residences for disabled or struggling veterans, and a community where they can find solace and support. Imagine a place where veterans can enjoy activities like mud bogging competitions during concerts, and gather around a grand fire pit to create and share music.
Four major annual events will support this venue, fostering a sense of belonging and unity among veterans. This haven will be a sanctuary where veterans can heal through music, knowing they are not alone. As a 100% permanent and totally disabled Marine Corps veteran, I understand the desperation of needing someone to talk to or help, and I vowed to do everything in my power to assist.
Music has given me a voice to help others and provided opportunities for fellow musicians to chase their dreams. I implore you to see the incredible benefits of this safe haven, a place where veterans can feel they belong. Your support can turn this dream into a reality.
Thank you for your time and attention.
Sincerely,
Mike Hernandez
